April 8, 2024 witnessed a landmark event — a total eclipse of the sun. This rare and spectacular event was forecast to result in $1.5 billion in revenue around eclipse-themed merchandise. This included everything from solar eclipse glasses to eclipse-themed mugs, t-shirts, and keepsakes.
It also included labeled products such as craft beer, wine, and spirits with names like:
- Bell’s Oberion Eclipse
- Maumee Bay Brewing Company’s Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout
- Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing Company’s Total Eclipse
Plus several hundred more.
If you Google phrases like “eclipse-themed craft beer,” you’ll notice that most of the short-run specialty brews came from small local breweries that are highly approachable by distributors. The eclipse is over, but the next event is right around the corner! So get those ideas churning.
What’s the Next Themed Opportunity?
The April 8, 2024 eclipse was truly a gift to distributors because it gave us a clear vision of how short-run labeling can be used to benefit our customers. This time it’s the eclipse, but next time it could be March Madness, Mother’s Day, or a local film, music, or summer festival.
What are some upcoming events in your customers’ local area? It’s time to brainstorm some ideas for limited edition products created using short-run labels.
